Dr. Don Bergland

(Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada)

Don Bergland currently works as professor of Digital Arts at the University of Victoria, in Victoria, BC, Canada. He has won over 40 creative & professional awards for his art, video installations, and audio productions. He maintains an active exhibiting career and has featured his work in 130 international exhibitions and performances throughout the world.

His artwork is represented in major corporate and private collections in Canada, the United States, and Europe. His recent work focuses on constructed theatrical sets within which manipulated objects interact to create symbolic commentary on the oppressive nature of organized ideologies. To achieve the proper psychological effect, the image making process centers on the digital construction of 3D models and environments.

The world and its emergent figures are carefully modeled, posed, and “photographed.” The resulting images are then taken into digital processing programs for the application of graphic overlays. These works represent a style he calls, “Technosurrealism.”
