Christos Pantieras
(Canada)
Visual Artist
Born in Ottawa, 1973, Christos Pantieras completed his Bachelor of Fine Arts and his Bachelors of Education from the University of Ottawa. He is currently a candidate in the Masters of Fine Arts (Sculpture) program at York University in Toronto.
Pantieras’ installation and mixed media works are created from the accumulation of invested acts of repetition as a means to regain traces of lost interaction. Elements of identity, memory, and nostalgia are incorporated into his practice. Currently, his work explores the impact of digital technology upon relationships by repurposing electronic communication and revealing the humanism lost from the courtship practices of online dating.
Pantieras has participated in numerous solo and group exhibitions in Ontario and Quebec, including the Ottawa Art Gallery (Ottawa), the Luminato Festival (Toronto), and the White Water Gallery (North Bay). Pantieras’ work is represented in the collection of the City of Ottawa and throughout several private collectors. He has received grants from the Ontario Arts Council and the City of Ottawa.
